Amber Keegan
Founder and Managing Director
Sport: Swimming
Status: Active
Biography: I have had a wonky trajectory in her career, to say the least. I broke out in the junior swimming scene in 2013, winning a medal in the 400 Individual Medley at European Juniors and competing at World Junior Championships. The normal junior-to-senior transition is tricky enough, but it took me 10 years before I would go on to represent GBR as a senior! I faced a string of physical injuries and mental health struggles, including getting hit by a Range Rover and struggling with an eating disorder. I have gone on to become 3 x British Champion, and qualify for GBR Open Water team 2023. I competed in the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Japan and aspire to qualify for Paris 2024.
Most proud of: Getting to a place where I am happy and healthy, enjoying life and sport! That’s truly been the biggest challenge of my life. Getting my brain healthy again was harder than anything I’ve done as an athlete!
Why are you involved with Athlete Interactions? No athlete should have to suffer in silence. I promise there is someone who can listen and understand what you’re going through, even if it doesn’t feel like it!
Current / Future Education / Career: Studying for my PhD in Chemical Engineering. I aspire to work in Science for Policy (helping to make sure that government policies use sound science in their decision-making).
Outside of sport / education / work, I can be found… Walking in the woods/mountains, preferably with a dog, or at some kind of live music, either a concert or the theatre!
